Luis Egidio Meléndez, known as the greatest Spanish still-life artist of the 18th Century, depicts a still life including a chocolate pot where chocolate was frothed and served in Europe at the time. It wasn’t until the 19th Century where people ate chocolate in solid form. This image depicts a time when chocolate was still viewed as a drink and served up hot and frothy.
