Fire Burned Mexican Aile Wood Molinillo
Fire Burned Mexican Aile Wood Molinillo
These “molinillos” are crafted out of the Mexican Aile wood (Alnus Acuminata tree). To achieve the smoked color finish (inspired by our grandmother’s kitchens) a direct fire burn was done with a blowtorch and for the final finish, cacao butter and almond oil were applied. Once the butter and oil are absorbed, the excess are removed and finally the piece is polished to remove the shine with a brush.
The molinillo is a kitchen utensil used in Mexico to beat chocolate since pre-Hispanic times. There is evidence in codices explaining that the presence of foam in chocolate drinks was a characteristic feature.
This molinillo can be used in the kitchen to froth up your hot chocolate by rolling it between your hand back and forth in your mixture of grated chocolate and hot milk or milk substitute.
For the chocolate enthusiasts it can also be used as a beautiful decoration.
