Chocolate For Geeks
Virtual Meetup!
A fun social virtual chocolate experience with a twist!
The Chocolate For Geeks virtual meetup will be a small group social where we will mingle, taste and analyze chocolate, in order to have fun trying new chocolate but also to learn from one another. But there is a catch…
The tasting will be recorded and posted on YouTube! Why? So that others can watch and learn from our experience! Learn how others taste, what to look for, perhaps be surprised by what it is we are enjoying.
-
Kits will be $30 CAD each (about $20 USD) including shipping (plus tax for Canadian based orders). Purchase them on Eventbrite.
It will include a small box of 5 samples, and simple preparation instructions and Zoom link. The Zoom session is included! All you pay for is the kit.
-
Kits ship across Canada and USA. They will be shipped about 10 business days or so before the event via courier.
-
Anyone may join- from beginner to connoisseur. However, the tasting is catered more to the advanced beginner to intermediate. That means it’s expected you have some knowledge of chocolate (or fine food) tasting.
We won’t really go into detail about how to taste chocolate in the meetups, but you will have resources on how to taste (it’s not that complicated!) and how to articulate. And if you join a few meetups you will learn very quickly!
-
The event will host a small group of people, and we will meet over Zoom. There is no cost for you to use Zoom, and can be accessed on your computer or smartphone!
First 20 minutes - Mingling and socializing. Maybe play a quick game.
Next 60 minutes - Tasting, Analyzing, Discussion of each sample.
-
You can attend one to try it out, and if you enjoy it, we hope to have you again and again!
-
The only rule is that there are no rules! Just kidding. Here they are:
Be on time. Be yourself! It will be light, fun, and discussion based. No wrong answers - no judgement.
Don’t purchase a kit unless you can commit to the event date/time. It’s not possible to reschedule as each kit/meetup will be unique. Also - the social is only social if people show up haha.
It’s preferred for your Zoom camera to be turned on. This helps us better connect. But if you are too shy (or don’t wish to leave it on the entire time), I fully understand! But you will have to have your audio on and use the chat feature during the discussion.
I recommend using only your first name or a fun alias when on Zoom since it will be posted online for others to watch.
If you cannot attend due to extenuating circumstances, please let me know ahead of time. The goal of this is to socialize, so it’s expected everyone will attend to make it fun and interesting.
There are no refunds once kits are packed and shipped. The cost includes shipping, materials, and a small amount for my time to prepare the kits. These meetups are more about socializing and learning, which is why the price is very fair.
-
Right here! If you wish to join, but you feel you’re very new to tasting fine chocolate, don’t fret. You’re more than welcome to join and share your experience.
And if you want to learn more, I recommend checking out my Chocolate Tasting 101 and browse through tasting tips, tools, and reach out to me if you have any questions before the event!
-
I ask everyone to only purchase a kit if you can put aside the time to attend and commit to the date/time. Since it is a social, your presence will add to the whole experience (and we want to have you there!).
As well, each kit will be unique, and we can’t reschedule. There are no refunds because the cost covers the kit and the shipping (the virtual event is free).
If you cannot attend, please let me know ahead of time so that the group is not kept waiting.
If you don’t show up frequently, I may ask you not to join again until you can be sure you can commit.
