Is White Chocolate, Chocolate?

Here is an image of some white chocolate toasted black sesame bonbons I made. The deep flavour of the sesame balances well with the milk and sweetness of the white chocolate.

I often get asked about white chocolate. What is it? And is it really chocolate?

White chocolate is made from the fat (cocoa butter) of the cacao bean. It is most often mixed with sugar and milk powder. Vanilla is often added as well. This is white chocolate.

Is it chocolate? Yes. Think of it as an egg-white omelet. Is it still an omelet? Indeed, only made with half the egg. White chocolate is chocolate, only made with half the bean!
