Taking Earthy Notes To A New Level

Growing some of my own pink oyster mushrooms.

I love mushrooms! In fact, I love mushrooms so much I even grow my own (see picture below). So I was intrigued to see if Standout could pull it off. Why did I doubt? Of course they could.

A beautifully balanced dark chocolate with porcini mushroom ground into the chocolate for a smooth sweet earthy note with just the right about of mushroom coming through towards the end and lasting long enough so you don’t miss it.

What a beauty! Glad to have it in my online shop.

Don’t be turned off by the idea though. Keep in mind that chocolate as we know it associated only with sweets, candies, and desserts is not how it was originally consumed. In Mesoamerica it was more of a savory drink than anything else. As well, when chocolate entered Europe, the Italians used it for many savory dishes including fried liver with chocolate, chocolate anchovy lasagna, and more. As well, don’t forget Mexican Mole! A seasoned and spiced chocolate brown sauce poured over turkey or chicken.

As well, many plain single origin bars have notes of earth and sometimes mushroom. It’s actually quite a wonderful experience.
